A series of oil paintings made in 2020 during the first few months of the COVID pandemic following the flowering of various blossoms and then consequently the painting of sweet peas as a commission.
“The quietness of the streets and the beautiful sweet sound of birds and the seeming purity of nature bursting through into the normally hustling bustle of the human landscape inspired these paintings into existence.”
Whilst Kate paints, she carefully selects music that will inspire a specific state of mind; it the case of "Cherry Blossom in a tarnished silver vase", she was listening to Monteverdi's "Missa in illo tempore Messa a quattro voci".
“Sweet Peas in a silver vase | hot summer” was painting during a heatwave, the sweet peas did not last long in the heat so had to be painted very swiftly; look closely to see the minimal use of paint used to create them.
